Concept to Completion
Our passion is to build a concept for your new space using practical and unique design ideas, then formulate a plan and produce a functional and beautiful space. We work with you to realize your dreams/potential for the most important spaces in your home. We offer full service design & installation services (concept to completion) and also assist our DIY (do it yourself) clients.
We begin with our first meeting in the design showroom. Please drop in, call or email to set up an appointment with one of our talented designers during showroom hours. (7:30am – 4:30pm MON-FRI)
Initial Consultation – by appointment
We set sufficient time for gathering information and answering your inquiries (usually 1 – 1 ½ hours – depending on the size of your project). During this time, we will assess the project and work to match the right line of cabinets for it. We will discuss all aspects of the project and work together to form a plan for going forward.

1. All decision makers (people) involved in the project.
2. Measurements! These are the key piece to get us started. In most cases this is essential to obtaining a quote. We offer options to meet your requirements. See below…
3. Your ideas, must-have lists, pictures, Pinterest board, images, drawings and doodles, color swatches, flooring sample, tile colors, pictures of your home and/or anything you want to incorporate into the concept.
Measurements are the key to success
We offer two options:
- Full Service: After our initial consultation, we come to you! Your designer meets you at your home/job site and takes the measurements required to form the design layout. A non- refundable deposit of $150.00 (plus tax) is required for this service. If you choose to purchase your cabinets with us within 30 days of obtaining your detailed quotation, this amount will be deducted from your cabinet order.
- DIY (Do it Yourself): At our Initial Consultation, bring us your measurements! (see our Guide to Measuring Your Space). We will use these measurements to create a quote based on the cabinet sizing, door/drawer style, substrate, finish and interior/exterior options you choose.
Please Note: For both services; appliance types, special order items and measurements are essential for accuracy. Please provide the specifications for your existing or purchased appliances. If you have chosen a special order item or have a non-standard sink (ie. Farm sink), please provide the specifications.
Our designers create a layout and very detailed quote. During this meeting, we go over all the details and layout with you. We provide 3D images and a written proposal for you to view including projected installation costs. This is the time to give your feedback and discuss any changes or ideas that come up. If changes need to be made, your designer will take note and review these with you. If additional meetings are required, we will schedule as needed.
Full Service: Once you have awarded Interior Motives (a division of Lumberworld) with the project, we meet once more on the jobsite. All parties involved include, the decision maker(s), contractor/installer and your designer. During this meeting all measurements are confirmed and if applicable any extra work is addressed (ie. Plumbing, flooring, drywall prep etc.)
DIY Service: Once you have awarded Interior Motives (a division of Lumberworld) with the order, we require a non-refundable deposit on the cabinet order to release the drawings for confirmation. This amount will go towards the purchase of the cabinets and must be ordered within 30 days to ensure the pricing remains current.
Once you have confirmed the measurements, we will make any adjustments (if needed) to the design and provide a final drawing/layout images with the changes.
Consultation – Ready to Order
Your designer will compile the drawings, contract and detailed images together to go over with you for your signature. This may take up to an hour or more, as we go over every cabinet and detail for your order with you. This is a very important process, as it is the final step before it is sent to the manufacturer. Upon signing the contract, 50% deposit toward the total cost (including installation and taxes) is required. Changes to the order will not be permitted once the order is submitted to the manufacturer. Our cabinet suppliers produce your cabinets from raw materials and build them specifically for your order. They are uniquely made for your space and are designed for beauty and to stand the test of time.
Order is processed
Your designer will send all the design details to the cabinet manufacturer and once it has been processed (normally within a week), the cabinet manufacturer will set up a tentative week of delivery to our warehouse. You will be informed of that date and we set up installation for the following week (in case of shipping delays).
Once your cabinets arrive at our warehouse, your designer will contact you to set up the date/time for delivery, and ask for the remaining balance to be made in store – approximately 1 week prior to the cabinet delivery to your home or job site.
Getting ready for Delivery
DIY clients: This step is very important part of the entire process. Providing a clear path with protected and ample space for the cabinets is important to prevent damage to your home, our delivery people and your cabinets.
Full Service Clients: This step is very important part of the entire process. Providing a clear path with protected and ample space for the cabinets is important to prevent damage to your home, our delivery people and your cabinets. The installer will need access to the kitchen or bath and require the spaces he is working in clear of items in order for him to place the cabinets properly. All appliances and/or items to be installed into the space must be stored in a adjacent room or garage area with clear access for the installer.
We employ skilled drivers and delivery people to handle the cabinets. Great care is taken to make sure the cabinets are moved into your space without incident. Please have the space where we are placing the cabinets, clear of furniture and other items (i.e. Dining room or garage). We will inspect the cabinets for damage when the cabinets are loaded onto the truck and any visible damage will be noted (if any) and you will be apprised of it when it arrives to you. We require your signature upon receipt of the cabinets and any visible damage must be noted at the time (with your initials). We ask our driver to take pictures of the unopened packaging to record any damage as it is delivered. This will aid us in obtaining a warranty claim (if required). If you are
Installation of Cabinets
On the day(s) of installation, the installer & designer* arrive on site to provide a smooth operation and ensure on-going contact with you as required. The installation is completed by a skilled carpenter (includes leveling of the cabinets, cutting for fillers, panels, moldings and toe kick cover). The installation of knobs/pulls is included as well as door and drawer alignment. The jobsite is left tidy and all wrappings and cardboard are removed upon completion.
Interior Motives works with suppliers locally in Victoria. We offer competitive pricing on laminates, stone and solid surface materials. Ask your designer for assistance to help you with choosing a color and sheen that will work perfectly with your cabinets, finishing materials and décor.
