Job Overview:
The Shipper/Dispatcher is responsible for the coordination and ensuring accuracy of all deliveries and building orders for delivery to jobsites as well as helping customers in the yard in a courteous and respectful manner.
Required Accountabilities:
- Coordinate the delivery team, load builders and order pickers
- Tracking and communicating delivery information to operations, warehouse, delivery teams, sales and customers
- Work with other team members to ensure delivery success
- Inventory management
- Document and report on required metrics and activities
- Communicate issues and successes to superiors in a timely manner
- Communicate all information and instructions respectfully
- Perform daily inspections of lift trucks and complete required forms
- Ensure lift truck maintenance and servicing requirements are met
- Build orders to required specifications for delivery
- Load and unload building materials in a safe and efficient manner
- Check load contents for accuracy and secure materials
- Unload transport trucks with product for the store and yard
- Responsible for insuring all truck inspections are completed
- Responsible for booking regular maintenance for all vehicles
- Ensure all products leaving the yard have been invoiced correctly
- Ensure that all products are shipped on schedule and according to specific instructions by management to meet customer demands
- Maintain contact with supervisor and work to resolve issues as they arise
- Maintain accuracy of inventory by reviewing packing slips for accuracy
- Be knowledgeable about all products stored in the yard and warehouse
- Use proper material handling techniques to ensure minimal damage to yard inventory
- Be familiar with the grades, dimensions and species of lumber and plywood stocked in the yard
- Be able to work in the yard during adverse weather conditions.
- Be professional, friendly, courteous and helpful to all customers and staff
- Contribute to the implementation of lean manufacturing principles
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Yard Foreman or Operations Manager
Job Requirements:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Strong communication, organizational and time management skills
- Customer satisfaction-oriented
- Broad knowledge of construction materials, building supplies and home improvement products
- Degree or diploma in business, commerce, supply chain management or equivalent experience on the job training
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize and manage multiple assignments
- Ability to work under pressure and comfortable with tight deadlines and customer demands
- Ability to cope with last minute changes
- Action-oriented, self-starter attitude and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
- A background in the construction industry, retail and sales
- Physically able to perform tasks that require prolonged standing, sitting and other activities that are necessary to perform job duties
- Ability to be active on your feet including climbing ladders and stairs and lifting weight up to 100lbs while rotating and climbing, pushing, pulling, bending and torso twisting movements with weight
- Flexibility in work schedule to meet the demands of the store and management
- Dispatch trucks and track using GPS software
